-POWER OUTAGE SHORTENS 6/11 ANNARBORALIVE BENEFIT
It was hot and muggy, and word came back of vicious downpours all around us, but the 70-some people in attendence at the West Park Band Shell kept the music spirit alive. Tucked under the big yellow and white party tent when the spit came down and up and around sometimes no matter what, Sari Brown entertained with her folk-based earth-people kindness, imagination, and lyrics, treating the audience to highs and lows of life portrayed in song and paralleled in the heigth and depth of her voice.
Then, as if the cosmos was ying-yanging us like a yo-yo, BLAMMO! crushed the hillside with screaming guitars, screaming vocals, screaming screams...banging song after song like their name...BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! Only to be drawn to encore by a chorus of kazoos shrieking like the cicadas of late summer. Clair Voyant, Evin Rude, and all the Blammites were KICK! Sucking the spirits of all that is raucous and channelling it through the perfect focal point of the band shell to the planet...
...and just like matter hitting anti-matter, like the yang turning back on the ying, the mere pronouncement of the word 'jazz' (for our upcoming concerts at the Vitosha Concert House) so soon after BLAMMO! punked out, poked Thor out of his slumber. Pissed, he vortexed the grid. Vacuum meets substance...and the power was gone. Kaput. Not a watt. BLAMMO! had moved so far out, natures only reprise was nothingness...and that's how it ended. Jazzuits and Bootyists alike were in awe. I can't wait til next year...
SPECIAL THANKS TO MR. LARGEBEAT, HE WAS THE MAIN MAN WHO MOVED AND SHOOK TIL MUSIC HAPPENED ONCE AGAIN AT WEST PARK. ..AND TO ALL THOSE WHO HELPED AND PLAYED (AND DIDN'T GET TO PLAY) AND CONTRIBUTED. Generous to the end...THANK YOU.
